Pretty powerful stuff, right?
It's silly (bordering on annoying) to interrupt a subscriber from reading your newest post by repeatedlyasking them to subscribe to your email list. Doing this face-to-face would be awkward, so why do we do it online?
Your other option is to be overly polite and shy with your opt-in requests, which leaves interested leads falling through the cracks because they didn't see your tiny, unobtrusive opt-in form.
It will get more subscribers onto your mailing list, while also making sure you're not alienating your most loyal visitors and most valuable clients by bombarding them with the same offers they have already signed up for.
As you saw in the video above, SmartLinks gives you control over what kind of content new visitors see, compared to what kind of content existing subscribers see and it alone is a gamechanger for list-building and Email marketing.
However, SmartLinks is just one feature in our already powerful Thrive Leads Plugin. How powerful? Let me show you more HERE!

This is the new updates of Thrive Leads Plugin by Shane Melaugh
This is the new updates of Thrive Leads Plugin by Shane Melaugh
We've just released an updated version of Thrive Leads update to go along with it). The update includes a series of improvements and additions to our flagship lead-generation plugin.
In this post, we'll give you a quick tour through what's new in the plugin.
In this post, we'll give you a quick tour through what's new in the plugin.
In Thrive Leads, the so called Leads Group contain all the opt-in form types that you can display on your site automatically, based on specific rules (e.g. slide-in forms, lightbox forms, ribbons etc.).
In the latest version, you can now also automatically insert opt-in forms inside your content, without having to manually edit each post or page:
In this post, we'll give you a quick tour through what's new in the plugin.
In the settings for the in content form type, you can determine the number of paragraphs after which you want the form to be automatically injected into your posts or pages. Just like any other form type in a lead group, you can precisely target which forms show where, based on categories, tags and more.
Thrive Leads is already built with your website's performance in mind and this latest addition adds a further speed factor. In the main dashboard, you'll find this new option in the top right corner:.
Turn the feature on and all Thrive Leads forms will load asynchronously. That means the loading of your form doesn't impact your site speed at all, as the form is loaded "in the background" and only once your page has finished loading.
Since most forms don't display immediately to the visitor anyway, there's no real drawback to lazy loading your forms. It's also worth noting that we do indeed load forms before they are displayed. This way, when a form is triggered, it is ready to appear right away and there's no additional delay. This is especially important for the exit-intent trigger.
Another advantage of the lazy loading feature is that it's an effective workaround for problems caused by caching plugins. Unfortunately, many WordPress caching plugins have a rather unsophisticated approach and don't handle dynamic content correctly. This causes a conflict with forms that are in an A/B test.
If you were experiencing a conflict with your A/B test data caused by a caching plugin, switching on the lazy load feature will fix the issue.
The ribbon form type is eye-catching but uses very little screen real-estate. This has made ribbons a popular option with our users. In the latest version of the plugin, you'll find a new option in the ribbon settings:
The option does exactly what you'd expect: you can now display ribbon forms at the bottom of the screen as well!
Have you ever wanted to make some design changes to an existing form, but faced a problem because the form was already showing on your site? You want to make some changes, but you don't want your visitors to see a half-finished form while you're editing and saving your progress.
We've added a simple solution to this problem:
Within any lead group, you can now simply flip a switch to hide a form. This is perfect for temporary editing of a form or for retiring a form type that isn't performing well.
This addition just removes a small inconvenience we had in the user interface. Before, when you had a test running, there was no way to view your previously completed tests.
Now, you can simply go to the A/B test report and you'll find your archived tests listed below.
Advanced users may want to send dynamic variables to their autoresponder. Here are some example use cases of this:
We've now added shortcode support so that if you add a shortcode to your autoresponder code then it will be processed and the output will be inserted.
Secondly, we've added a new filter called "tve_additional_fields". Developers can hook into this filter in order to add any custom code immediately before the </form> tag of the autoresponder code.
In order to make this as easy as possible for anyone wishing to implement this, we've added a new knowledge base article (complete with examples) and have an example plugin that you can use to help you get up and running on GitHub.
A small detail, but one that we received a few requests for: you can now easily rename your lead groups so that as campaigns develop you can keep your naming up-to-date.
That concludes the roundup of new additions in the latest version of Thrive Leads. With the plugin installed, you can update it with one click, right from your WordPress admin dashboard!
The new plugin is called Thrive Leads and quite simply, it will be the best, most fully featured lead generation plugin for WordPress.
Lightboxes, in-line opt-in forms, slide-ins, ribbons, precise targeting, templates… you name it, Thrive Leads has it.
We’ve also built the best split-testing feature ever to be added to a product like this. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to easily test different form designs and also test different form types against each other (e.g. an exit-intent lightbox vs. a slide-in that appears when the visitor scrolls to the end of the content).
With Thrive Leads, you can set up a test between two or more variations of your forms in just minutes and then you can use our "automatic winner" feature to let the plugin do the rest.
Thrive Leads review will automatically monitor the performance of each variation and once a statistically proven winner has been found, all the losing variations will be hidden automatically. In practice, that means you can "set and forget" your tests and your conversion rate will automatically increase over time.
Thrive Leads seamlessly works with all Major Autoresponder and email marketing systems. Whatever system you use, as long as it creates HTML forms you can embed, it will work with Thrive Leads. Plus, you can use different lists and different services for different forms you create, so you're never tied to just one system.
New Thrive Leads Review Features
Thrive Leads Review
Thrive Leads has been updated with a major new piece of functionality, that opens up many new possibilities. Here's a first look at the new API connections feature.
When you update Thrive Content Builder and Thrive Leads to the latest version, you'll see a new way to integrate with your favorite online marketing services in the "API Connections" feature.
Up until now, you could connect to autoresponder services by pasting the HTML code of signup forms generated within those services. That's still possible, but we've now also added the option to connect via API, to these services (click the links to see the setup tutorials):
Plus, with the API connection, we've been able to new services and options that weren't accessible through the HTML form method:
For most autoresponders and email marketing services, the HTML form method of integration worked without issues (and still does), so why did we add these API connections?
There are a few advantages, some of which will become clear with future feature releases. One advantage is, of course, that the feature enables connections to new services like GoToWebinar and MailPoet.
In the case of GoToWebinar, you'll usually want to sign up new leads to a webinar eventand a mailing list at the same time - something that can now easily be done thanks to the API feature.
In some cases, setting a custom Thank-You page to show to new leads after they sign up is quite complicated or even impossible (looking at you, MailChimp). That's where another advantage comes in: when using an API connection, you can set a custom thank you page that overrides whatever is set in your autoresponder service.
Finally, there's a convenience factor: you no longer have to find and copy HTML forms whenever you create a new opt-in form on your site. Once connected to a service, any future form integration you create are much quicker and easier and you don't have to leave your WordPress admin interface to do it.
Building an email list is one of the smartest things you can do as a blogger. But you need the right tools to help you and if you use WordPress, that means having the right plugin. We often forget that while we’re trying to make it easy for our visitors to subscribe, it needs to be easy for us to deploy, customize and test those opt-in forms too. After all, our time is valuable right? In this review we will take a closer look at a WordPress plugin that might just be exactly what you need to rapidly accelerate the growth of your email list without any messing around or a huge learning curve. Just a straight forward yet powerful tool to grow your email list. Sound good? Let’s dive in! Enter thrive leads review thrive leads review is a new WordPress plugin from the Thrive Themes team. It’s designed to help you add engaging opt-in forms to key locations on your website, make it easy for you to split test different opt-in forms and monitor your progress. There are plenty of templates and other features that will have a huge impact on your list building efforts. Let’s take a closer look. Important note – thrive leads review is currently offering a discount across all plans for a limited time, click here to secure your discount. Add opt-in forms to key locations with ease Opt-in forms within thrive leads review are organized into 3 different groups: Lead groups Here you have all of the main opt-in form types which include: Ribbons Popovers Widgets After post Slide-ins These forms are grouped together, so when you add a new group you can add one of each opt-in form or several different ones – this is great for keeping things organized and you can instantly see how well each of the forms are converting. Lead Groups Apart from the widgets, the other opt-in form types will be added automatically after you customize the display settings (note: you should only use the display settings after you have customized your opt-in form). You are free to add as many opt-in forms as you like and you have access to various display settings so you could choose to display a particular opt-in form just on the home page, posts, a tag, a category or a specific post/page. This enables you to create incredibly relevant opt-in forms for your visitors so you can massively increase your conversions – offering something that is more relevant is super important. Shortcode placement Here you can setup opt-in forms that you’ll place using shortcodes. You can use these within widgets if you want, but they are typically used as in-content opt-in forms. And they are a great way to get more email subscribers! For example, a lot of websites will get a significant portion of traffic going to their about page. With this feature you can easily add an opt-in form within that page (or any other). You can add as many shortcode based opt-in forms as you like and then see which of the pages convert best. Lead Shortcodes 2 step opt-in forms A 2 step opt-in form is slightly different from the other forms. It displays a popover when a link or button is clicked. It works via a shortcode so it’s really easy to add to any of your posts/pages. 2 step opt-in forms have been found to have a huge impact on conversions. The thinking behind this is that people are more likely to click a button/link than enter an email address but after they click the link they are partly invested in the process so they’re more likely to enter their email address. It works by adding a shortcode around the text or button you’d like people to click on to display the popover. This makes it extremely easy to setup. Add A Shortcode How easy is it to use thrive leads review and customize forms? Getting setup is really straight forward with thrive leads review. It’s easy to add opt-in forms and stay organized. One issue I’ve had with other plugins is that it can get difficult to manage if you have a lot of different opt-in forms. But, with thrive leads review organizing forms into groups, it makes it so much easier to manage. Opt-in forms are incredibly easy to customize too. You have a slick drag and drop editor that makes things so much simpler. You can see exactly how your form will look as you edit it. You’re not limited to the elements within the template you choose either because you can add other content elements too. Template Elements You’ll also find helpful videos within the plugins interface so you can get a quick helping hand if you get stuck. Add New Lead Group thrive leads review comes fully loaded with engaging opt-in form templates You get access to some great looking templates with this plugin but what I like most of all is that most are grouped into sets. This is a great way to keep your opt-in forms looking consistent. So you can add a popover which will look something like this: Opt-in Form Example And then add a widget opt-in form which has the same design: Opt-in Form Example 2 There’s a good variety of great looking templates and with easy customization functionality you can make them look how you want them within a short amount of time. Skyrocket your conversions with super easy split testing thrive leads review is geared to help you massively improve your conversions. Thanks to how the plugin is organized, creating split tests is VERY straight forward. And there is a lot you can test here. You can either clone an existing opt-in form then make tweaks or you can create a completely new design and test that. For particular opt-in types you’ll have the option to set a trigger. Like with popovers for example. You can test timed popovers against popovers which appear after a particular point in a page is reached. While there’s a lot you can test, it’s best to start off with a single hypothesis and then test that. Social Media Checklist But it gets even better. Why? There’s a feature that I’ve never seen in a list building plugin yet which is the ability to test different opt-in form types against each other. Start New Test Of Opt-in Form Types You can also select the option for the plugin to choose the winning opt-in form automatically – great if you’re pushed for time. Other thrive leads review features you will love We’ve talked through quite a few of the main reasons why this is an effective plugin but there are some more important features that you will love. Page level targeting – use inclusion and exclusion rules to decide exactly where on your sites particular opt-in forms should be seen Built in reporting – easily monitor how well your opt-in forms are performing Daily overview – see a snapshot of your progress on a daily basis Support for all major email marketing platforms – if a platform supports custom HTML forms, you can use it with thrive leads review Various triggers for opt-in forms – find the right balance to ensure your readers aren’t interrupted Supports exit intent for popovers – display popovers just as a visitor is about to leave Links to help videos within the plugin making it easy to find your way around Save your own templates Supports multiple fields, check boxes and more Final verdict Most plugins get difficult to manage when you add multiple opt-in forms, but thrive leads review is the opposite. It’s super easy to find your way around and there are help videos within your reach if you need them. All the major opt-in form types are supported and they come with some great looking templates which you can customize very easily. It’s easy to get started with split testing and you can test different opt-in form types against each other – that’s a first for list building plugins. There are incredibly in depth page targeting options so you can make your opt-in forms extremely relevant to your readers – this will have an incredible impact on your email sign ups. Instead of having a popup display after a certain period of time, you can use the Slide-In form to slide in from a corner of the page (typically the bottom right) only after a visitor has read through a certain amount of the post.Thrive leads slide-in form triggerThis way you're making sure the reader is actually interested in your content before asking them to opt-in for more, and that you're not immediately turning them off.Alternatively, if you want to be more aggressive with your list building you can show a popup and a slide-in form on the same post. Set the popup to display shortly after page load and the slide-in form to show when the reader reaches the end of the post. The slide-in form has the same display options available as the Lightbox popup, plus you control the position it slides into the page:Display Thrive Leads ribbon opt-in form on top or bottom of postSidebar Opt-InAdd a sidebar opt-in widget to relevant pages:Thrive Leads widgetThrive Leads widgetThrive Leads widget for semrush playbookSidebar widgets are a great way to immediately draw attention to your lead magnet.Emails collected: 60Average conversion rate: 1.09%Post FooterAutomatically add opt-in forms to the bottom of your content.Thrive Leads post-footer opt-in formAgain, if a visitor reads all the way to the end of the post they likely enjoyed it, and will want more. However, none are as robust as Thrive Leads. It allows you to select which specific pages/posts you want to target/exclude with the opt-in form.In-content opt-in form targetingThere is a long list of targeting options, including:PostsPagesCategoriesPost/page typesBlog index404 error pageFront pageAnd the ability to only show forms on desktop or mobile devices. This can help improve user experience. These advanced targeting capabilities makes it easy to launch content upgrades (a content-specific lead magnet). For example, I created a lead group for my SEMrush playbook and targeted it to this review and this expert roundup:Since both posts featured the SEMrush tool I knew readers would most likely be interested in reading my Ultimate SEMrush playbook:Semrush lightbox popupBy providing an ultra-targeted (and relevant) offer to my readers I was able to get a 7.05% conversion rate and collect 166 new email subscribers in 11 days! And, I did it with a content upgrade that took me less than 2 minutes to create:Pro Tip:Creating content upgrades doesn't have to be complex or time-consuming. In fact, I created the SEMrush playbook in seconds. Here's how:I simply took this SEMrush review I wrote last year and turned it into a PDF using the free Print Friendly & PDF chrome extension:Print Friendly and PDF chrome extensionOpen the post you want to convert to PDF and click the green chrome extension icon:And click the "PDF" button to convert the post:All the links will pass from the post into the PDF. This is very helpful if you plan on promoting affiliate products/services in the PDFs.Content upgrades convert so well I'm building out one for each post on my site.Insert forms anywhere with Thrive Leads shortcodesSometimes the best way to capture a reader's email address is to place opt-in forms within the content. Here is a live example:3-Step Formula will turn your bloginto a List Building Machine...Learn how to turn old content into high-converting lead magnets in 1 minute...and collect hundreds of email signups.EmailSHOW ME HOW!Thrive Leads provides shortcodes you can paste anywhere on your site and immediately have an opt-in form display. No coding or technical skills required. This way, readers are given the opportunity to opt-in to your email list as they are reading. This strategy is perfect for placing content upgrades throughout posts and embedding sign up forms on high traffic pages. The shortcodes are located below the Lead Groups section in the main dashboard:Thrive Leads shortcodes dashboardCopy and paste the shortcode where you want it to appear on the post/page. You can add as many shortcode opt-in forms as you like and quickly see which ones are converting the best.Content LocksContent Locks are a new feature of Thrive Leads.Wrap a shortcode around any block of content to gate it with an opt-in form. Here is a short video that will show you how to use this feature:Edit the shortcode forms the same you do with the Lead Groups.Emails collected: 113Average opt-in rate: 0.93%Two-Step Opt-in formsA two-step opt-in form is different from the other form types covered above.Two-step opt-in forms are located under the shortcodes section on the main dashboard:Two-step opt-in formsYou can use two-step shortcodes to make any page element an opt-in form. For example, in this post I use a two-step opt-in forms to make a button click trigger a popup to display. When the reader clicks the button this popup displays:Two step opt-in form popupHere is a live example (click the button below):Download the Ultimate Thrive Leads PlaybookDo you want to double or triple your email opt-in rate and grow a profitable email list faster than ever before? Download my ebook, "The Ultimate Thrive Leads Playbook" below and learn step-by-step how to collect thousands of new email subscribers on autopilot.Yes, Send Me The Playbook Now!Similarly, you can make text links trigger a lightbox.Copy your two-step shortcode and wrap it around the text you want to trigger the form:Learn how to make a content upgrade in less than 5 minutes.Pretty cool, huh?!You can add two-step opt-in forms anywhere in your content by simply wrapping a shortcode around the page element you want to have trigger the form. The psychology here is that people are more likely to click a button or a link than enter their email address. After they have clicked a link they have subconsciously committed themselves to the process and are more likely to complete it by entering their email address.Multi-Step FormsMulti-step forms add an additional layer of interaction to pull the reader into the opt-in process. They are designed to get more subscribers by posing a question or additional layer of interaction the user cannot resist to engage with.It works by displaying an offer to the reader and asking them if they want to take advantage of it or not.If the reader clicks yes the sign up form will display:Thrive Leads multi step formIf the reader clicks no the form will disappear.Ask your readers a question that aligns with a pain point. By clicking the button, the reader is indirectly communicating a need for the solution your lead magnet/offer provides. In this case, a way to get more people to visit their site.Thrive Leads provides several pre-built mult-step templates to get you started:Thrive Leads multi step optin formMonetize traffic with multi-step popupsYou can also use multi-step popups to promote affiliate products and monetize your blog traffic. There are a number of ways you can do this. I like to use multi-step exit intent popups to promote affiliates. For example, when a user's mouse movement indicates they are about to leave my recommended tools page they will see this exit intent popup:Thrive Leads exit intent popupIf the reader clicks yes they will see a popup with a call-to-action linking to the Thrive Leads sales page:If they purchase Thrive Leads I get a commission on the sale.Double conversion rates with A/B testingHaving the ability to quickly build, deploy and target your opt-in forms is great, but what really matters is how well they convert.A/B testing is a simple way to compare two versions of your opt-in form to see which one converts better.Thrive Leads provides the best A/B testing engine I've ever seen in a WordPress plugin. You can A/B test different form designs against each other:And identify which form triggers deliver the highest conversion rate:Thrive leads ab test optionsYou can set up these tests in seconds.Open your "Lead Group" and click to edit the form you want to A/B test. Next, hit the "clone" button to make a copy of the form:Clone Thrive Leads formThen, choose which element you want to A/B test:TriggerDisplay frequencyAnimationForm designIn this example, I want to set up an A/B test on the form trigger to see if the form converts better when triggered 10 seconds after page load or on exit. So, I'll click the "Trigger" link and select "show when the user is about to exit the page":Thrive Leads exit intent triggerThen, hit "Start A/B Test" and give it a name. You can also select the option to have the winner chosen automatically based off a few predefined conditions:Thrive leads ab test different form triggersHere is an example of how a simple trigger a/b test almost doubled my email opt-in rate:You can see the form set to display immediately on page load had a 6.75% conversion rate vs. the exit intent at 3.54%:Thrive leads ab test exit vs immediateThat's a 91% increase and an extra 56 subscribers over a two week period. But, it gets even better...Thrive Leads provides a feature I've never seen in any other list building plugin...The ability to test different opt-in form types against each other.Test different opt-in forms against each otherFor example, I might want to run a test to see if slide-in forms convert better than popups. So, I'd just click "Test types of forms against each other" and then select the form types to test:AB test different form types against each other with Thrive LeadsIn this short video tutorial I'll show you how to set up and deploy A/B tests and reveal the simple trigger test that increase my opt-in rate 91!Integrates with all major email service providersThrive Leads form integrationsThrive Leads connects to all the major email service providers.Up until recently you could only connect to autoresponder services by pasting the HTML code of the signup forms generated within those services. Now users can connect forms to their email service provider with a single click via API connection (much easier).UPDATE (5.20.2015):Thrive Leads now provides an API connection for most of the major email service providers.AweberMailchimpGetResponse (this is the one I use)OntraportActiveCampaigniContactDon't worry, connecting your form is easy.First, open the form editor and click on the input fields and select "connect services":Connecting Thrive Leads via API connection to major email service providersNext, choose your email service provider and the list you want to connect the form to:That's it!
